ProCredit Bank supports investments in energy efficiency measures for private households.
ProCredit Bank supports investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy home improvements. A responsible approach to environmental protection is an important part of ProCredit Bank’s social responsibility and a core part of our banking philosophy. Taking steps to reduce pollution in the light of climate change is an important issue that requires urgent attention. ProCredit Bank is therefore launching its EcoCredit loan – aimed at private clients in particular – which seeks to improve household energy efficiency, reduce heating and electricity costs, and increase the comfort and the value of homes.
People nowadays consume a large variety of resources, such as electricity, gas and fuel. But do they consume these resources in a responsible way? A great deal of energy that is used to heat homes is wasted because of poor insulation. With EcoCredit from ProCredit Bank, private clients or associations of apartment owners can invest in energy efficient solutions and technologies, such as insulation for windows, walls, roofs and floors, the installation of steam boilers or biomass stoves, solar water systems, heat pumps and other energy-saving measures to reduce resource consumption.
“With the renovation season around the corner, people are thinking about how they can make their homes more comfortable and efficient in the long run. We offer a financial service that enables our clients to invest in new energy efficient technologies that will lower the cost for heating during the winter, and cooling in summer, and make their homes more comfortable. ProCredit Bank is a responsible financial institution, and we support initiatives that use energy and natural resources in an efficient manner” said Ms Lilia Boico, Head of Private Clients Division at ProCredit Bank.
EcoCredit loans are granted under the Moldovan Residential Energy Efficiency Financing Facility (MoREEFF) of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
“As energy prices, globally, are expected to continue to rise, it is crucial to improve energy efficiency”, said Mr Toma Georgiev, Project Manager MoREEFF. “Building on the successful residential energy efficiency credit facilities in other European countries, we believe many Moldovan households will welcome the opportunity to introduce new energy-saving systems in their homes. With these investments they will lower their energy consumption, make their homes more comfortable and, of course, reduce their energy bills. In addition, after taking the loan and implementing the home improvements in family houses or apartment buildings, borrowers are entitled to receive an incentive grant equal to up to 35% of the loan amount.”
In line with our responsible approach to banking, all applicants undergo a financial analysis to carefully assess their repayment capacities and ensure that they do not become overindebted.
In 2012, ProCredit Bank received an energy efficiency credit line from the EBRD’s Moldovan Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (MoSEFF II) for on-lending to business clients. Within the MoSEFF II programme, ProCredit Bank has strengthened its expertise in providing financial services to business clients for investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Since then, the bank has supported businesses that invest in sustainable energy efficiency projects and has helped businesses reduce CO2 levels and limit damage to the environment.
Protecting the environment is everybody’s responsibility. That is why ProCredit Bank has implemented an environmental management system based on the continuous assessment of its loan portfolio according to environmental criteria, and an in-depth analysis of all economic activities which could potentially involve environmental risks. Moreover, ProCredit Bank is committed to implementing policies that promote our approach to managing the environmental impact of our institution and the environmental impact of our clients’ investments. As part of our commitment to environmentally friendly projects, our next step is to support private clients within the MoREEFF programme to improve their living conditions and help them save energy.
