ProCredit Bank – the first Bank in Moldova to receive ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management systems
ProCredit Bank is the first and only bank in the Republic of Moldova to receive ISO 14001: 2015 certification – a globally acknowledged standard for environmental management systems.
The bank received ISO 14001:2015 certification following the audit carried out by the body for certification of management systems of the state enterprise “Centre for applied methodology and certification”. This certification serves to prove once again that ProCredit Bank developed a system for environmental management and protection which complies with both local and international regulations and supports the bank’s efforts to promote the implementation of environmental laws. ProCredit Bank implemented these standards by applying environmental procedures the purpose of which was to reduce the bank’s ecological footprint.
Environmental protection is one of essential elements of professional and personal development provided to ProCredit Bank employees. The banks carries out a centralized monitoring of electricity, heating, water, paper and fuel consumption. These measures result in efficient usage without disturbing working conditions of the staff and immediately reduce negative impact on environment. Since 2012, when the bank implemented environmental management system, the bank has reduced annual consumption of:
- Electricity by 55%, which equals the absolute value of 1,8 million kWh;
- Water by 61%, which equals the absolute value of 2,6 thousand m3;
- Paper by 65%, which equals the absolute value of 11,5 tons.
ProCredit Bank also finances sustainable and environmentally friendly projects. The procedure of loan applications analyzing allows to assess ecologic and social risk associated with customer’s activity, as well as to check whether it complies with health and security norms. Today the analysis of social and ecological risks represents an integral part of potential customers assessment, and together with financing of “eco” investments serves to improve environmental performance of the bank. Thus, ProCredit Bank placed about Euro 31 million in business clients loans for energy efficiency, renewable energy and eco-friendly measures. At the end of June 2017 “green” portfolio of the bank amounted to Euro 14,9 million, which constituted 14,3% of the total portfolio.
